Aww, Bryn...what a beautiful story!
Hmmm. Don't know if it's the full moon, that I'm not feeling well, heavy work load this week, or what, but I seem to be doing the turtle thing. You know, drawing into my shell??

So, when in doubt, let's do a quiz, eh? Link via Lynn.

Speaking of the full moon (which was Monday night), it was WAY too cloudy here to chase it in the evening, but I should have had my camera yesterday morning. It was doing that weird peeky thing through blue/grey morning clouds that would have been very nifty. To check out sunrise/sunset moonrise/moonset in YOUR area, click here.

Susan has a bunch of super links here!
Ugh. All that pouting this weekend wasn't good for my system. My stomach didn't want to get up with the rest of me this morning, so I'm on delayed status for going to work. I HATE when I'm sick on Monday. Everyone always thinks you had too much weekend...which would be fine if that was the Culprit! Oh well. The chicken noodle soup is settling, and I have time to do the Monday Mission before I get dressed.

PromoGuy's Monday Mission 2.42

1. Have you ever felt like you were expected to set a good example for others? I'm an oldest sibling, we're told from the get-go to be a good example.

2. What keeps you on the right path? For example, why do you think you turned out the way you did as opposed to the nut ball sniper out there? Well, I think the nut ball sniper is sub-human and doesn't really count as an example of anything. When I was a kid, I read the book "In His Steps". It was the original "wwjd" book, and it's what I try to do, though I don't follow through as much as I should.

3. Sometimes things seem different than they really are. When was the last time you believed something to be one way only to learn you had it all wrong? This issue has been about people. I thought the guys in our shop were only interested in young beautiful blondes. I was wrong. And it pointed out how prejudiced I was about certain male types.

4. Can you recall a time when being alert and observant kept you safe? In traffic. Though sometimes I think that's the angels watching, too. *smile*

5. Who in your personal circle of relationships do you think is smarter than you? Are they smarter in just one area, or overall? How do you feel about that? How do they interact with you? My brother Boo, in the overall department. He's one of my best buddies.

6. Let's daydream a little: Describe in detail the most perfect lazy day, start to finish. Um...*grin*...okay, I'm imagining, but I don't think I'll describe it>

7. Are you dressing up for Halloween? If so, what as? If not, how come? What is the most favorite costume you ever had? I'll wear black with a Halloween kerchief. Works for the office. Most favorite costume? A hobo costume I wore in 6th grade. I think that was my last year of trick-or-treating.

Jennifer of fortysomething has excellent Survivor commentary and comments. I know some of you watch Survivor with me. How about we make our bootee choices in advance, point for each correct bootee? I'll start it out with picking Robb to go this next week.

Bryn's been busy. Check out her Halloween page here.
Still pouting. :-(

Another seven things about me, for the 14x7+2=100. (swiped from promoguy.net)

22. I have walked the upper outer rim of the CN Tower in Toronto.
23. I saw Les Miserables in Toronto.
24. I saw Phantom of the Opera at the Wharton Center.
25. My wisdom teeth have all been removed.
26. Best spot on earth: Appekunny trail in Glacier National Park.
27. Favorite book: Narnia Series by C.S. Lewis.
28. Tom Selleck was staying at our hotel in Toronto. We considered using the service elevator to visit him...but didn't.

Meteor shower coming:
This from the Starwanderer:

The Orionids peak on October 21st, although some may be seen during the period of October 16th through the 26th. This shower has a peak rate of around 30 per hour, or around one every two minutes on average.
The Full Moon could present a problem for viewing.

Okay, it's nine minutes until the MSU homecoming game against Minnesota. Let's all say...."GO GREEN".

I was reading in the State News yesterday that this is the beginning of the 50th year of MSU's participation in Big Ten Football. It is also the fiftieth anniversary of the education college. Lots of good 50's tie-ins.

Update: 7-7, first quarter.

Update the second: 7-13, end of half.

By the way, the tractor above is pulling a hopefully record-breaking 3000-pound Rice Krispie treat. And let me insert a plug here for Kelloggs, a fine Michigan company.

Update the third: 7-28, end of third quarter.

Update the last. We lost. Bleh. Heading out for a late lunch. And Susan ~~ thanks for all your cheering and crossing!
The paper today says there is full color about 150 miles north of us in the Grayling-Gaylord band. Full color will be in the Traverse City area later this week.

Here in mid-Michigan, we are at about 15-25% color. Unfortunately, that color seems to be mostly on the ground. *sigh*

Sniper Officials May Charge Witness

Sounds like a good plan to me.
I have in front of me the 1953 Webster's New American Dictionary, a lovely book that is about fifty years old. (We do love things of that vintage, hehe.) The front section is the New Words Department, containing "not only those new terms that have come into common usage as a result of and during World War II, but also terms of previous origin that have become pupularized during the war period". It goes on to explain that these words are basically on "probation" and may or may not be included in the general dictionary at a later time.

A sample of new words....from 1953.
amplitude modulation. ascorbic acid. autocoids. (hormones) Atlantic Charter. Aussies. B-Complex. benedryl.
bone head. booby trap. bottleneck. bra. cinemact (to act in motion pictures). collage. corny. dive bomber.

It's Survivor time, and I'm thinking it's time for Stephanie to say...buhbye!
Cybertoad links to this really really neat site. I just had too much fun, until I got my skaters all entwined. Thanks, Elaine!
Feeling witty? Check out Scott's caption game.
I've been meaning to rant.
This rant is about salespeople, not about CompUSA, where the incident took place. CompUSA is my favorite of the computer stores, so I wouldn't want to give a bad impression of it. We were told to get a red covered flashlight for our astronomy class. The red doesn't destroy night vision when you're looking between the sky and star charts. The only place students had been able to find them was at CompUSA, so I knew they were there. I went to the store on Saturday. I also needed printer cartridge refills and while there I thought I would check out the little inexpensive "spy" cameras. I was standing in front of that display when a sales person came up and asked if he could help.

Usually I say no, but I thought perhaps he could direct me to the red lights. "Hmmm. I don't know if we have those," he said, as he took off. I thought he was going to ask someone about them, but apparently not, as a few minutes later I saw him wandering after another customer.

Upshot is, I found everything I needed, including the lights, which were by the check-out. The sale might have looked as though it would be only a few bucks, but turned into $112.00 with all that I needed to get. I wondered if they worked on commission. If so, next time get a little sizzle, dude!

Busy Week.

This has been a busy week. Tuesday night we went to a Red Cross fundraiser called "Empty Bowls". The Potter's Guild sponsors it. They contribute 800 or so bowls. For a $15 contribution you can choose one bowl. You also get a bowl of soup, a slice of bread and water. It makes a person think about all those whose meals are that meager on a daily basis. The event is held at the local art gallery, which was staging an exhibition from a Michigan competition. This translates into: some wonderful art, some truly awful.

Different Kind of Autumn

It appears that this might not be a brilliant-colored autumn. We didn't have the severe droughts of other areas of the country, but we did have a dry spell that came at exactly the wrong time.

There is also a maple fungus appearing in this area this year. Fortunately, it's not lethal to the trees (Mom has four 40-year-olds in her yard) but it is ugly ugly ugly...and means raking and bagging must be scrupulous. Oh boy.

It always tickles me that we get more work done when the "big guys" are out of the office. Due to a couple of unforeseens, we're running without our three "top" people today...and things are relaxed and getting done in an orderly and efficient manner. And this is on my break, so I'm not goofing off, hehe. Little people rule!

EDIT: Check out New Companion for another office take.

Edit the second.Overheard at work: "I'm like a cat. I spend my day covering my mistakes."
Here's a good place for some elegant little games.
